Southeast Region a tough one

While working on the preview story for this weekend's PIAA Class AA Southeast Region, we unearthed some interesting facts.

From what we can tell, not one of the 11 area wrestlers who qualified for the regional will have an easy path to Giant Center for the PIAA Class AA Championships the following weekend.

Making the trip to Wilson High School in suburban Reading will be seven returning champions and 13 returning state placewinners.

Of the wrestlers who qualified through the Southeast Region last year, 29 ended up placing at the state tournament and three others won state gold.

That's pretty good for a regional comprised of small schools that hail from traditional big-school districts. Teams in the field Friday and Saturday include wrestlers from districts 1, 3, 11 and 12.

Those are districts full of big schools, but what they showed last year was that there's also some pretty good wrestlers at those little schools.
